Required reading

A brilliant book, written in a lively, engaging style and getting at the essence of experience design. This book should be required reading for all designers: experience designers, human-computer interaction designers, graphical designers, and industrial designers. It moves us beyond the basics and fundamentals toward the higher levels of human values and needs. The examples demonstrate how the ideas can be applied.
I rarely give such high endorsement. This book deserves it.

Norman's Social Proof

Well, Donald Norman highly recommended this book after a period of recommendation silence. I was expecting to love this book and I do. If you liked Thoughts on Interaction Design by Jon Kolko, you'll like this book. If you're familiar with Information Foraging Theory (by Peter L. T. Pirolli), you'll find this book is highly information-rich. Unlike Information Foraging Theory, though, it was written in a more approachable style.
This book made me stop and reflect on all the dozens of notes I've written about unfulfilled needs. I realized that very few of these unfulfilled needs were about goals or motivation. I was focusing mostly on the "what" and "how," rather than the "why." This book set me off on a new, better direction.
