Just alright...

It’s hard to describe what I feel about this book. It’s definitely not like or dislike, but just – meh. Many spoilers ahead, so stop reading now if you don’t want to know any. This book is about college student Grace from the U.S. She lands a prestigious internship in London at Huntington Ventures, where it just so happens that the founder/CEO is a superhot Brit and member of the aristocracy, Jonathan Huntington. As fate would have it, she crosses his path upon arriving in London and immediately catches his attention. But unbeknownst to her, she also catches the attention of Jonathan’s creepy Japanese associate Yuuto Nagako. Grace’s coworker, Annie, tries to warn her away from a guy like Jonathan… but you know she doesn’t listen. As they engage in an “only sex, nothing more” affair, Grace (stereotypically) finds herself falling for Jonathan. But is she willing to accept what little Jonathan can offer in terms of a “relationship”?
And the answer to this question at the end of the story is – No. But of course, Grace doesn’t come to that healthy conclusion until she engages in said affair, meets his family and closest friend (who both seem to like her a lot), and agrees to go with Jonathan to an exclusive (sex) club. It is while at the club does Grace realize she wants to be exclusive (because she loves him), whereas Jonathan likes to get his kicks with a lot of random strangers. Not to mention Yuuto wanted her to come to the club from the jump, and that still didn’t send up enough flags for Grace to pass on the whole situation. So, of course this story ends on a cliffhanger – Jonathan runs after Grace in the rain as she’s fleeing from (high-class) Swingersville. But what does he have to offer to make her stay now that she realizes she can’t go through with a one-sided relationship? I’ll have to read the next story to find out. Which I will but, I do want to say this…
This story is such a 50 Shades knock-off; with that being said, aren’t they all? And 50 Shades is probably a knock-off of another story, but regardless, they all seems so formulaic:
- Normally unattainable billionaire uber-hunk
- Naïve early 20s woman, who doesn’t realize how beautiful she is
- “Impossible” relationship problems to overcome
- Strange sexual appetites
- Family problems
- Weird older sexual mentor
So why did I read this book? – Because I was intrigued by the description of the last book of the series, but knew I’d have to read the first two to understand what was going on. And read on I shall, if not for any other reason than I always try to read a story straight through. And seeing as how I was provided all three books via NetGalley (in exchange for an honest review), an honest review I have given.

An Internship in more ways than one

Grace is a student at the University of Chicago studying Economics. She wins an internship to Huntington Ventures in England. The CEO, Jonathan Huntington, is one of the most eligible bachelors in England.

He doesn't have relationships, only sex, and belongs to an exclusive sex clubs. His desires seem to come from a dark side and troubled past.

Grace is naive, has never really been in a relationship and is a virgin. She has focused solely on her studies. She is unable to resist this dominant billionaire and his sex appeal and skill she mixes business and pleasure. She interns in his company and bed against the advice of many around her. He doesn't want to only have sex with her either. Can she handle his lifestyle?

The sex scenes are off the charts hot and there are.a lot of them. The book ends with a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next installment.

Really great read!

This is book one in the "Colours of Love" Series. This is my first book by this author too...but once I read this book I had to go and find book two 'Uncovered' because I had to know how things ended. Yes, book one does have a cliffhanger similar to 50 Shades of Grey where you need to the next book to pick up their story. Also it touched lightly on 50 Shades of Grey in their love scene but did not go as far. I truly liked this story and really go into the characters and even the secondary characters were really good!
Grace our heroine, is a young 22 year old lady who has never really left home and has only been going to college but she get a internship at a London Office for three months and decides that she really wants to go. Grace has been following the company history and the owner. On her first day in London at the airport she see Jonathan Huntington who is the owner of the company. She thinks at first he is there to pick her up and she goes to him only to find out he doesn't even know her but is there to pick up some Japanese colleges. So embarrassed she starts to walk away trying to find other transportation when he comes up to her and tells her they will take her to his office. When he drops her off at the office everyone is shocked that she had caught his attention and that he even gave her the time of day. The next day she is called into his office and he offers her to intern as his assistant and her original interning job. She quickly agrees know this is a good opportunity for her and her future career. Grace does wonder if she can handle the attraction she feels for him and do this job at the same time but decides to go forward with the offer. Grace starts to find that Jonathan is not so immune to her either.. But Jonathan seems very cold him some of his attitude towards her. Jonathan does act different around his sister and his best friend so she knows he is can be somewhat off guard at times. I really cannot say enough about this book and hope that you too will enjoy their emotional and wonderful story.

On a warm midsummer's evening, Geoff and I strolled hand in hand across London's Waterloo Bridge after seeing a play at the National Theatre. Midway, we stopped to gaze across the Thames toward the Strand. At almost ten o'clock, the last glimmers of a startling sunset splashed the sky with flames of amber and crimson, casting a coppery glow on the spires of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. I leaned into Geoff and he held me close, his cheek brushing my hair.

"There," Geoff whispered, nodding toward the shimmering windows of the Savoy Hotel. "That's where we'll have supper."

I squeezed his hand, then tilted my head back for a tender kiss. The Savoy was a perfect choice for our last romantic evening. We'd spent four blissful days and three nights filled with long walks, long lunches and lingering mornings, afternoons and evenings enjoying our time together and talking endlessly. We were still new to each other and savoring the melting euphoria of falling in love. I was in my forties but felt like a giddy teenager--and was behaving like one. I couldn't imagine a moment without Geoff, yet he was leaving on an early flight the following morning, returning to work publishing Los Angeles magazine. I would remain in England, filming on location. We wouldn't see each other again for weeks. I ached at the thought of it and pushed it from my mind, not wanting to spoil our last precious hours together.

As we turned off the Strand into the glittering entryway to the Savoy Hotel, I glimpsed the two of us mirrored in the silvery panels lining the curving walkway. In a fleeting cascade of images, I saw myself clad in a silky dress and strappy high heels, moving in step with Geoff, tall and handsome, his dark hair even curlier in the warm, moist air. He was wearing his new English blazer and the shirt and tie we'd bought for him that afternoon. I squeezed his hand, so proud to be with him.
We had no reservations for dinner, but we hovered only minutes before a maître d' ushered us to a table by a window aglow with lights sparkling along the river walk. Appropriately enough in this shrine to Art Deco, a string orchestra was playing Cole Porter. Geoff ordered champagne, then led me to the dance floor. We danced cheek to cheek to "The Way You Look Tonight," swaying in a gentle embrace, falling in love all over again.

A Beautiful Love Story

Kathryn Leigh Scott has written her most personal book so far, and I must say it took me into a world of romance, denial, frustration, compassion, fear, hope, love, pain, and ultimately, acceptance. Ms Scott's writing style perfectly pulled me into her "Last Dance.." and held me captivated until its shattering conclusion. I read the book in less than two days and it has stayed with me ever since. Working in the field of behavioral health, I've treated people diagnosed with neurological diseases (and counseled their care-givers) for years, so I am intimately familiar with the fear, frustration, second guessing, guilt and burn out experienced by all involved. Reading Ms Scott's work, I felt the pain of her husband's decline and the dread of the inevitability of his final outcome. And she took us through this journey without one false note or misstep. Nevertheless, the common thread running through the whole book was love, and how love can carry someone through the most excruciating and devastating of experiences. I know that last statement can sound maudlin and cliched, but its presence in this review is completely sincere. This important work will stay with you long after you've finished reading it and you will be profoundly moved by Ms Scott's resilience, vulnerability, and strength. Highly recommended!

Beautifully honest storytelling

Last Dance at the Savoy brilliantly tells the story of caring for a spouse with PSP. And yet, ultimately, it is a love story. Ms Scott deftly weaves the romance and joys of life with her husband throughout the never ending challenges as the symptoms increase with the progression of the disease. Through Ms Scott's talent for storytelling, the reader will feel invited to go on this emotional journey and fully experience the commitment, perseverance and honesty.......as well as the poignant beauty of that last dance.

while i am reading the memoir of last dance at the savouy i am reminded of the journey that my mother and i went through with my father when he was diagnosed with parkinsons my favorite part of the book is the unconditional between kathryn and geoff that she shared with honesty and humor. the love she shared with her husband in this book has been a blessing to me. god bless you and others for the strength and endurance through trials like these

An area often overlooked

Many authors, myself included, have written on the subject of disaster preparedness. What this book does is to focus on the often neglected topic of personal emergency communications. Andrew does a great job of explaining not only why you need a robust communication system (or two), but he also brings it home through colorful narratives. If you're curious about ham radios, personal locator beacons, scanners, and other forms of communication systems, I recommend that you give this book a read.

Good Introduction to Personal Radio Communications

This is a very useful book for someone interested in communicating in a disaster or emergency but who has little or no experience with using radio equipment. It covers almost all of the personal radio services, licensed and unlicensed. I think he is fair in his comparisons of the different types of radios and their capability, up to and including amateur radio which is head-and-shoulders beyond any of the non-licensed radio services.

I like the book's approach of "you can do this" and how it emphasizes thinking about what you want to accomplish, having several backup plans, and the need to practice. Andrew manages to explain the basics of different radio technologies while keeping a lot of the technical details from obscuring the basic points. To be sure...to get the most out of your radio and communicate effectively you'll need to learn some of the technology but not all at once right at the beginning.

The sections on personal prep and "go kits" is welcome and can't be repeated enough. Going though his provided templates will help anyone think about planning and their personal circumstances which is a good thing - not enough people do it and are then unprepared.

He provides on-line resources that will help the reader learn more about whatever technology they wind up deciding to use. This keeps the book from becoming an encyclopedia and makes it easy to read all the way through instead of getting sidetracked by details.

Perfect first book for public on emergency communications

I bought the book from Amazon after hearing the author speak at an Emergency Communications conference.
As a ham radio operator involved in EmComm, I was already 'on board' with the idea that regular folks need
a way of communicating after an emergency that would take out the phone system, such as an earthquake.

The book starts off with the 'why' it's necessary, which is re-enforced from excerpts from a novel the author
has written, and moves forward in logical steps to 'how' to make it happen. While the author is a ham radio
operator himself, he reviews all of the technologies available to the general public besides ham radio, and
walks the reader through building a communications plan. The planning is extremely important, and I've
never seen a book intended for the general public that goes into this necessary level of detail before this one.

If someone is waking up to the fact that some sort of emergency planning would be a good idea, this is
the book you should put into their hands first.

If I could suggest an improvement, it would be to add a discussion of the ham radio National Traffic System,
and how the public might contact a ham who is involved to pass a health and welfare message.
