Monique Skidmore is a Fellow in the Research School of Humanities and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, Australian National University. She is the author and editor of numerous books and articles, including Burma at the Turn of the Twenty-First Century.

Patricia Lawrence teaches peace and conflict studies and anthropology at the University of Colorado. She is the author and co-author of a number of books and scholarly articles, including the forthcoming Intervention Before Violence.

Mathew Ortiz has returned to writing a good story.

I decided to give Mathew Ortiz another go. I loved his Renovating Love series and the Cookies series, but hated Costa Living two part serialised story that was over-priced and under-delivered as a story. Here however, he seems to have returned to writing a good stand-alone book that looks destined to be part of a series. He even incorporates a couple of references to a Renovating Love character. I was a little dismayed at the start with all the Southern twanging going on and the spelling mistakes through the book (one example is sweat potato...ewwwww) - needed more editing. But although the spelling mistakes grate like nails down a blackboard it didn't take away from the story once I could get into the characters and ignore the obvious attempts at down-home linguistics.
The story is very good. The story is told from the point of view of Emmett (Em) and from Alex. This is not always my favourite mode of story telling but it doesn't really detract from the flow of the story. Small town outside Atlanta, hard-working well-to-do family full of love and their own issues and boy meets boy (through Emmett's Momma - who asks Alex if he is a homosexual). Not every day a Mother asks someone if they are homosexual to ascertain whether he is a dating prospect for her big beautiful bear of a son - but hey a love connection is a love connection. There is acceptance within the family and most of the community. There is a lot of genealogy given, and holy hell you practically need to start writing a family tree to keep track of all the names. Throw a few begat's in there and you get the idea it's bigger than Ben-Hur.
I see a minimum of two more stories with Alex's friend Hale and Em's cousin Bumper plus Em's Uncle Eli and Oscar Hernandez (who works for Cormac O'Malley-Ong who we met in the Renovating Love series); and even perhaps Mike Wirbowski the dishy cop from Atlanta. But with a family bigger than Texas there could be many more in the series.
One thing I didn't like was the use of a LOT OF CAPITALS to denote yelling - which he does a lot. Or it denotes a loud noise - like Hale hammering on the bathroom door then yelling at Alex or Alex/Emmett to stop having sex in the bathroom.
Quite a good rounded story, back to his good writing. Nice job Mathew Ortiz, I am glad I gave you another try. This is where your writing should be - a couple of copy editing tweaks and less of the down-home slang and twang and it would be perfect. But the story was good - you nailed it.

A nice story....if you can tolerate the typos, missing words and such.

This is a very sweet story. Sadly it is in desperate need of editing. I read the reviews of others and thought, "I can look past a few mistakes". Unfortunately the misspellings, incomplete sentences and grammatical errors are so numerous (at least a couple per page), it makes it too difficult to really enjoy the story. At some points one can even find highlighted sections suggesting perhaps this was a "draft" rather than the final product. While a great story is in there somewhere, you do have to work to find it.

Good story, but needs an editor

This is a light, enjoyable, funny story with great characters that's an easy read with a touch of drama and angst. The author clearly has a great sense of humor and loves all his characters and I found myself laughing more them expected in a m/m romance. The romance itself was sweet and the sex scenes were decent. The only story point I had a problem with was the event that landed one of the characters in the hospital because the perpetrator came out of nowhere. I would think a better approach would be to include these characters, show their escalation and then what happened would make sense. As it stands now, it's a good plot point to demonstrate love, but doesn't have any emotion attached to it because it came out of left field.
So, onto my main reason for the 4 stars: grammar, punctuation, formatting and random highlights. This author doesn't seem to know how to insert a page break between chapters, then there's the use of the wrong pronoun like "he" instead of "his," then there's ending of sentences with words missing and then there are highlights in places for no reason. It was truly aggravating that such a good story was lessened by these avoidable and fixable things.
Hence, while I enjoyed the story and the set-up for the next one, I'm not sure if I'll be buying it as I don't want to deal with the headache from the grammar, punctuation and formatting issues.

The control system topics covered in the book include cruise control, adaptive cruise control, ABS, automated lane keeping, automated highway systems, yaw stability control, engine control, passive, active and semi-active suspensions, tire models and tire-road friction estimation. A Fun Read

I really enjoyed this story, and I hope to see more from Hanner. Actually I wouldn't mind reading more about the misadventures of Moritza and Krampus if she decides to elaborate further. This is a well-written novella, and I found myself pleasantly flushed and flustered during a number of its steamy scenes. I enjoy erotica, but after a while the stories of big, Adonis-inspired men paired with passive heroines becomes stale to the seasoned palate. Even a lot of supernatural romances have lost their appeal for me. I give Ms. Hanner props for writing something out-of-the-ordinary that not only kept me interested, but left me wanting more after the last sentence was read.

fantastic, dirty short story with a plot!

I never have super high expectations for smut books. When this one was chosen for my book club, I was wary. But it is surprisingly well written, has a plot that actually kept me entertained between the smut, and had, well, very enthusiastic dirty scenes.

The book is short, smutty, and a fun read. Definitely worth the price. Unless you're not into Pan-like goat people smut. If that bothers you, you should probably stay away.

The Cold War

The Cold War was inevitable, I think, because of the "artificial" alliance between dictatorship and democracy. Some realities soon were revealed after WW2 ( in fact, also during the war, eg the Katyn Executions ). Victor Kravchenko was an important person in this picture, thoroughly presented by Gary Kern in this book.
The information given in the book is impressive. Some questions regarding Kravchenko are still in the dark, others are explained, eg some his actions - and the actions of other people - in the crucial years 1944 - 46. The book is a mixture of a historical document and a political thriller.

We should not forget the freedom fighters of yesterday. These events took place only 50 - 60 years ago. The Soviet Union has collapsed, but not the totaliarian threat. Kravchenko was far from being a saint, but he had a message!Freedom of speech and the courage to use this freedom is one of the main themes in Gary Kern`s book.

Gary Kern, well-known for his major book on the defector Krivitsky (A DEATH IN WASHINGTON), has now published a fascinating and thorough study of Victor Kravchenko, using archives and documents not previously available. Kravchenko was a defector from the Soviet bureaucracy who was the first to warn the West about Stalin's post-war plans and the first to reveal the extent of the Gulags. His life was complicated by his aggressive temperament, but it was that temperament that led him to confront Stalinists in the course of a bitter trial in France. The book is very well researched and provides informations ignored for a long time (I believe). But it is a one-sided approach, as if we were always in the middle of Cold War ! Eugene LYONS is not thoroughly surveyed. Too little is said about the economics of "I CHOOSE FREEDOM".

About the Author
"S. C. Garg, PhD (University of Delhi), is Professor of Physics at School of Sciences, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. Earlier he was Pro Vice Chancellor of IGNOU and Founder Director of Centre for Learning and Teaching, National University of Lesotho, Roma, Southern Africa. Before joining IGNOU in 1989, he was with the Department of Physics, Hindu College, University of Delhi for about 12 years. With more than three decades of teaching experience in India and abroad, Prof. Garg has co-authored four textbooks in physics at the undergraduate and Masters levels. He has published several research papers in national and international journals and guided several students for their PhD degree. Having been a member of academic councils and management boards of several universities in the India and abroad, he has wide experience in planning and development of curricula and learning materials for different groups of learners. His areas of research are Theoretical Reactor Physics and Physics Education. R. M. Bansal, PhD (University of Delhi), is Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Hans Raj College, University of Delhi. He has more than three decades of teaching experience and has been a member of several committees tasked to revise physics courses. Bad Production Quality

The content of the book looks pretty solid. It's just that random words and parts of words are missing. Symbols in equations are missing. Usually you can infer what was supposed to be there, but sometimes not. Its very very annoying. I don't mind McGraw Hill or Amazon selling a defective book at a discount, but they ought to be up front about it. This is a bad production run.

MUST READ

We all have our issues. This book clearly demonstrates how our issues or those of our ancestors affect our lives today and the lives of our children and so on. The method seems very simple but the outcome is EXTREMELY PROFOUND. Even by reading the cases of others in this book you will have insight as to your own issues, and those of the people you love. And take the first steps to heal your self and your family. As John says in his website. "By healing the idividual, we heal seven generations back and seven generations forward"

This is an enjoyable little volume in the Oxford Introductions to Language Studies series. Roach begins with an overview and then directs our attention to the production of speech sounds and the creation of vowels, consonants, and tones. He also covers suprasegmentals, acoustics, and the use of sounds to compliment one another in the creation of meaning.

My only complaint with this book is its emphasis on the BBC accent. This alienates those who are unfamiliar with this accent or those from other areas who are concerned rather with their own accent. This critique could be broadened to include most of this Oxford series so this criticism is not particular to Roach.
